¿Sabes ser agradecido?
La palabra gratitud viene del latín Gratitudo, y significa que lleva la idea de agradecimiento hacia una persona que le ha prestado un servicio, o favor, así como estimar un favor o beneficio que alguien le ha concedido.
Sirviendo a Dios con gratitud
Mateo Henry, el famoso autor del comentario que lleva su nombre, fue asaltado por unos ladrones que le robaron su cartera. Entonces, él escribió lo siguiente en su diario: “Señor, ayúdame a estar agradecido; primero, porque nunca antes he sido robado; segundo, porque, aunque se llevaron la cartera, no me quitaron la vida; tercero, porque, aunque se llevaron todo lo que tenía, no era mucho; y cuarto, porque fui yo quien fue robado y no quien robó.”
Regalos de nuestro Dios
Nuestra gratitud hay que demostrarla a la persona que hace el bien. Esta es una virtud moral que nos hace felices al practicarla y refuerza nuestra relación con la persona de quien se recibe. Recibimos de Dios las cosas que ningún hombre puede vender ni comprar y mucho menos regalarnos, esto viene sólo de Él:
- Vida
- Salud
- Oxígeno
- Agua
- Luz solar
- Alimentos
- Familia
- Naturaleza
Todas estas cosas tienen un valor incalculable que como humanos no podríamos pagar, pero nuestro Dios nos las regala. Estamos en deuda con Él y por esa razón hay que demostrarle nuestra gratitud, en este caso sirviendo a Él, y a nuestro prójimo.
Diez por ciento es agradecido
Hace más de dos mil años transitaba un hombre judío en las tierras de Jerusalén que tenía el poder para quitar las enfermedades incurables como la lepra. Su nombre era Jesús, conocido como el Mesías en hebreo, y Cristo en griego. Su nombre significa “Ungido de Dios”.
“Yendo Jesús a Jerusalén, pasaba entre Samaria y Galilea. Y al entrar en una aldea, le salieron al encuentro diez hombres leprosos, los cuales se pararon de lejos y alzaron la voz, diciendo: ‘¡Jesús, Maestro, ¡ten misericordia de nosotros!’ Cuando Él los vio, les dijo: ‘Id, mostraos a los sacerdotes’. Y aconteció que mientras iban, fueron limpiados. Entonces uno de ellos, viendo que había sido sanado, volvió, glorificando a Dios a gran voz, y se postró rostro en tierra a sus pies, dándole gracias; y éste era samaritano. Respondiendo Jesús, dijo: ‘¿No son diez los que fueron limpiados? Y los nueve, ¿dónde están? ¿No hubo quien volviese y diese gloria a Dios sino este extranjero?’” (Luc. 17:11-18, RV 1960)
Esta historia nos habla de hace más de dos mil años. De diez, solo uno fue agradecido, lo cual representa el diez por ciento. Noventa por ciento no sabe mostrar su gratitud por los favores recibidos.
¿Cómo andaremos hoy en día en nuestros tiempos, estamos seguros que practicamos esta virtud? ¿Practican ustedes, mis amigos lectores, este principio de gratitud? ¿Como andarán las encuestas, qué porcentaje no tiene gratitud? ¿Estaremos mejorando o vamos en decadencia? Se los dejo a su consideración.

Qué decir de mamá y papá que nos han creado, cuidado, y educado. Tú tienes una carrera profesional gracias al esfuerzo de ambos o quizás te han apoyado para sacar adelante tu negocio.
Recuerdo a una joven que terminó su licenciatura. Sus padres la llevaron a celebrar en un restaurante y la joven llevó a algunas amigas de su grupo. Mientras comíamos, se puso de pie y dijo: “Agradezco a mis amigas por el apoyo que me dieron durante todo el tiempo, a mis amistades, maestros”. Pero no escuché que dijera “Gracias a papá y a mamá por pagarme mis estudios en un colegio privado, por darme su apoyo, ánimo y por esta fiesta para festejar con mis amigas”.
No sé por qué pasó por alto a las personas a las que era necesario dar muestras de gratitud, y, por el contrario, se las dio a otras. Tal vez por ignorancia y creer que los padres tienen la obligación de darnos todo.
Tenemos que empezar a agradecer a nuestros padres, que son quienes se han esforzado para llevarnos a donde estamos. Pero, sobre todo, debemos ser agradecidos con quien nos regala la vida y nos da la salud y fuerza para alcanzar nuestras metas. Me refiero al Gran Dios todo Poderoso, que siempre es Fiel.
Concluyo diciendo que debemos tener gratitud y demostrarla con las personas que verdaderamente nos han ayudado y han hecho bien.
